How to Choose a Rug for Your Dining Room

    When choosing the shape and size of an area rug for your dining room the main detail to focus on is your dining table and its seating capacity. 

    All four legs of each chair should be comfortably situated on the rug even when they are pulled out.A general rule of thumb for dining rooms is that your rug should extend at least 24 inches around the table. Also, there should be 18 inches of floor space between the rug and the wall. 

    A size 5 x 8' rug is recommended for smaller dining areas seating 2-4 people while an    8' x 10' or 9’ x 12’ is recommended for larger dining spaces seating 6-8 people. If you have a square dining table with a seating capacity of 4-6 people, placing a 7 or 9 foot round rug could attractively tie your room together.
